About the MCR

Downing Middle Combination Room (MCR)
The MCR serves as a meeting place for graduates within College.

Downing College MCR is the graduate community within Downing. It is made up of every graduate student in college, as well as some affiliated members such as postdoctoral students. As graduate students, your teaching will be organised by your department, whereas the College primarily acts as a place for you to live, socialise and access welfare and support, if needed. In particular, the MCR is a place where you should feel at home. Here you will meet students from all places around the globe studying a wide range of subjects. The MCR has a TV with Sky Digital channels, a free pool table, a table-football table, board games, comfy sofas and chairs. It receives The Guardian and The Times newspapers which are left around the MCR for people to read and subscribes to New Scientist and Private Eye. There is also a bar area with a fridge, kettle and sink and the main attraction: the free coffee machine which also dispenses hot chocolate. Tea is also available, for those who would prefer.
